According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, a report done this past August revealed that Americans spend about $83 billion per year in hospital fees because of diabetes. That figure is 23% of total spending by hospitals!
Diabetes affects almost 25 million Americans, as stated by the American Diabetes Association. Diabetes is listed as the 7th leading cause of death in America according to the Centers for Disease Control.
What’s even more alarming is that in the U.S., there are currently 57 million people with pre-diabetes, and 1.6 million cases of diabetes are newly diagnosed each year among Americans that are 20 years old or older.
